We were all assigned our caboose 1114 on 197 out of Des Moines. I was sitting in the bay window on the side in the dirt. I thought it was going to tear the bay window and seat out. We were running 45 M.P.H. I had brown in my shorts. Ha. Caboose and hind six cars went off track just south of Rippey. We went off track around 1:30 A.M. One nice thing about M&STL 90% of the men were easy to work with and got along. People in management were the same. You could not find better people than Al Fox, Rodger Buttons or Bob Cantwell.

Dounut flour is what was in that boxcar the wrecker has up in air. The cable broke just after that picture. They had to put section men inside to shovel part of the load out because it shifted to one end. Zedelmire was head of all section crews . He was an ornery old guy. It was over 90 out side so you know what it was like in that car. When that section crew came out the flour started rising on them like if you were baking with it. The section crew were heading to a creek to get in and wash off. He told them "Get back here and get to work ." Some of those section foreman were not like Walker and others. They had no compassion for the men. That was some of the 10%. I would not move the train till they got washed off. 5/15/2003 Paul Dinoto
