Memories of the M&StL in Louisa County

My mother's family moved to Morning Sun Iowa from Pennsylvania in 1948. When asked what there was of the M&StL in Morning Sun, she relates how the natives talked about the destruction of the depot. The story tells of a derailment crashing into the structure, a fire resulting and a railroad employee loosing their life. Have you any information to verify this?

The M&StL was absorbed when I was 6 years old, so I personally remember little. I do remember jon boat rides on the Mississippi from due west of Oquawka, IL. to Keithsburg, IL. Going under the M&StL bridge was part of the grand tour. Once, a long freight was passing, so we lingered under a mid stream span. The noise and view left a lasting impression.
