New Division Point FT
Here is a list of detail parts I use on a M&StL RS-1.
--- Joe Binish --- joebinish@earthlink.net
Cash, as promised here are my thoughts on modeling the M&StL F-units.
FT (445 and 545) use the Stewart single headlamp, no side # board unit, and shorten the B-unit by 6 scale feet
F2 (147) The F2 was an FT in a F3 body, so use the F3 Pase 1 from Stewart (As and Bs)
F3 (248, 348, 448) These were Phase 2s, with modifications, so they look like Phase 3s. To explain, the Phase 2 had chicken wire between the portholes, the M&StL removed it. So, use the Stewart Phase 3, just as.
F7 (150, 250, 151) Phase 1 F7s, use the Stewart Phase 1 F7.
The only parts to add are grabs, ladder grabs and a speed recorder on the left front truck journal. An alternative to the non-FTs is the Highliners F unit, which can make any of the As or Bs. I use Floquil reefer yellow and Southern green, then any black. I prefer the stripes on Kurt Stobbe's F unit decal, but the hereld and wings from the Micro Scale set. Any other questions, please call, or email. Joe Binish joebinish@earthlink.net
Highliners shells will fit on the Proto1000 drive, but you need to keep the window/latch casting from the Life Like shell (good luck getting it out in 1 piece! try acc debonder, not the screwdriver I used!) It probably will need trimming to fit the HL window spacings.
A possible model for M&StL 500 class Pacifics One might look at the NYC K-11 Pacific from Bowser (catalog #100200) as a possible starting point for the M&StL's 500 class Pacifics. The diameters of the leading truck wheels, drivers and trailing truck are 33", 69" and 43" respectively on the prototype. On the Bowser K-ll those numbers are 33", 69" and 42" respectively. The driver wheel base on the M&StL locos was 12'-6", on the K-ll model 12'-8". The USRA light Pacific has 73" drivers and a 13'-0" wheelbase. Gene Green - Post #541 Yahoo! Groups List
EXPRESS CARS CONVERTED FROM WWII TROOP SLEEPERS - M&StL #400-402 (1950) Inside Door 5'6" more ambitious remake of Cannonball Car Shops #9707 fabricating added sill. Cannonball 9707 conversions may be made with 9701 using the window plugs supplied with it. Kits sell for $28-$30.
Subject: New Prague flour mill
Dec 2002 Railmodel Journal has an article on the Robin Hood flour mill at
New Prague. There are 6 prototype photos and a map. All photos are taken
after the great unmentionable took over the M&StL.; Gene Green
