According to "Mileposts on the Prairie" the ten wheelers (4-6-0) replaced the Moguls (2-6-0) on heavier passenger trains when they arrived on the M&StL. For many years the ten-wheelers pulled the North Star Limited. The flexible 4 wheel lead truck held the curves better at high speed than the rigid 2 wheel "pony" truck on the Moguls.
