Mr. Giboney Houck,
Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Dear Sir:
I am in receipt of your favor of the 27th instant enclosing map outlining territory that might be covered by a group of small roads now in operation, conecting up the Iowa Central, Mobile, Jackson & Kansas City, Cape Girardeau & Chester Railroad etc., thus combining a through line from Iowa and Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.
The proposition is an attractive one, and I think possible it might be worked out at a later date;but at present time I do not see that very much could be accomplished owing to the difficulties that would neccessarily be experienced in finding a market for the securities. However, as above stated, something might be done in this direction at a later date.
I believe that the people in control of the Mobile, Jackson & Kansas City road are making an effort to reorganize the finances of the property, but I am led to believe that thus far they have not met with very much success, so that probably it would be better to await the outcome of this before giving the matter connecting up all of the lines to which you refer, serious consideration.
Thanking you for bringing the matter to my attention, I am
Yours truly,
E. Hawley
