Do you have any railroad information about New Sharon, Iowa?If you have any photos or other information relating to New Sharon,
IA please contribute to this page.
I am Byron (aka Ron) Swanson who lived in New Sharon from 1952 - 1961 and my father owned the Swanson grain elevator shown at the far back of your picture and storage bins shown on the right side of your pictures. The train station was either not operational in the early 50s or was deactivated shortly after. The main line passed the station on the right (North side) and a spur passed the station on the left side. The spur was used by 2 grain elevators to load grain into boxcars. The rails were taken up by the railroad in the late 1950s or early 60s and replaced by a lower grade steel track so that the rails could be used elseware because of the hig grade steel. |
