Feb 16,1946 Worst wreck in years blocks M&StL.; A faulty wheel is blamed for causing the worst wreck in 28 years. The train was eastbound when one truck of a car derailed and traveled for a mile before pileing up and tearig out 200' of the trestle. The wreck happened on the Sulfer Lake trestle one mile west of Morton. Nine cars were involed with three wood boxcars of corn breaking open when they fell from the trestle 20' to the frozen lake below. The line was opened to trafic again on the 22nd. Train were run out as far as Morton from Minnepolis while the line was blocked so mail, freight and express was uninteruped. Don't know what they did for the line west. They used farm trucks that drove out onto the ice to load the corn and haul it town. This note from Sam Sherman
